Approximately 10-20% of people with inflammatory bowel disease, either ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease, can develop peripheral arthritis also know as colitic arthritis. In some cases, the inflammatory arthritis may be the first presentation before the diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease. Colitic arthritis can affect any joint and the pattern is variable. Treatment includes treating the underlying
bowel disease.
