RA is a chronic inflammatory arthritis characterized by joint pain, swelling and stiffness, usually affecting the small joints of the body symmetrically. Patients may notice swelling, redness, pain and warmth of the joints, as well as fatigue, weight loss and low-grade fever. RA affects more women than men.
